| In a recent ‘chess chat’ with a friend, I was very surprised to learn that despite being quite the chess fan, he could not think of or show me any games by a certain well known late chess super grandmaster. As a consequence, and not before a (short but concise!) scolding lecture, I showed him the game below – which I am bringing so that no chess fan need ever say they don’t know any games by that persona... | Michael Botwinnik en David Bronstein behoorden niet tot de trouwste gasten van het Hoogovenstoernooi. Botwinnik deed eenmaal mee en won _ in 1969 _ de gedeelde eerste prijs. Bronstein was in 1963 de gedoodverfde favoriet voor de eindzege. Na een dure nederlaag met wit tegen Pilnik eindigde hij ten slotte op de tweede plaats achter Donner. In 1992 kwam hij nog eenmaal terug voor een minder geslaagd optreden in de tweede groep... (lees meer) |

 | News - Corus presents Dutch talents on the highest level |
| The organizers of the 71st Corus Chess Tournament have invited the young Dutch Grandmasters Daniel Stellwagen (1987) and reigning Dutch Champion Jan Smeets (1985) for the Grandmaster group A in 2009. For both players it means a debut on the highest level. Together with Loek van Wely, they will represent the Netherlands in the traditional chess festival, that will be held from Friday January 16th to Sunday 1st of February 2009. .. (read more) |
